FAQ

Short answers to the questions that usually stop people

This page is for the highest-friction questions only: fit, beta review versus signup, billing, onboarding, proof, support, and obvious non-fit cases. If you need deeper detail, use the linked proof, switching, accountant, and eligibility pages rather than guessing.

Main questions

The answers below reuse the current published position on fit, onboarding, proof, pricing, and support. Nothing here widens scope or adds new promises.

Why does this matter now?

Because the pressure is shifting toward cleaner digital records. For many eBay sole traders, the hard part is not a filing screen. It is keeping payout bookkeeping in Xero clean enough that later filing does not depend on messy manual reconstruction.

Where does SalesToAccounts fit if MTD pressure is part of the problem?

SalesToAccounts sits on the bookkeeping side: eBay Managed Payments payout data goes in, entries land in Xero at payout level, and later filing stays elsewhere. It helps keep the records cleaner. It does not file to HMRC.

Is this beta review or a normal signup?

It is the beta review route. The current order is fit check first, review submission second, manual fit review next, then founder-led onboarding for accepted sellers. It is not instant signup and it is not a paid checkout flow.

When does billing start?

Billing is not part of the current beta review flow. Accepted beta users use the product free while beta is running. Standard monthly or annual billing only becomes relevant after beta closes.

What happens after I apply?

Applications are reviewed manually against the published fit. If the fit looks right, follow-up happens by email about onboarding and timing. Onboarding then starts with connecting Xero, connecting eBay, choosing mappings, and reviewing one payout before scheduled posting is enabled.

What does onboarding involve?

Accepted sellers connect Xero, connect eBay, choose where sales, fees, refunds, adjustments, and the payout balance should go in Xero, then review one real payout before relying on scheduled posting.

What does this actually sync into Xero?

SalesToAccounts creates Xero entries from eBay Managed Payments payout data. It is not a line-item sales sync. The setup is designed to keep sales, fees, refunds, and adjustments clear at payout level.

What is outside scope?

Not for VAT, accrual-led, stock, inventory, or cost-of-goods workflows; limited companies; multiple entities or Xero organisations; non-GBP setups; other marketplaces or ledgers; HMRC filing; or real-time sync expectations.

Is this for VAT, accrual, limited companies, or multiple entities?

No. The current supported fit is deliberately narrow: UK eBay sole traders using eBay Managed Payments and Xero on a non-VAT, cash-basis, single-entity, GBP-only setup

What if I already use A2X or Link My Books?

Do not switch just to save a few pounds if your current setup already works. SalesToAccounts only makes sense if the narrower scope is the point and you can compare one real payout safely before changing process. Start with the switching hub, then use the dedicated A2X or Link My Books comparison page that matches your current tool.

What does support look like?

Support is handled by email. Beta review requests go through manual fit review, accepted users get founder-led onboarding help, and confirmed service issues are shown on the status page and in follow-up emails.

What should I review before relying on it?

Review one real payout. Check the payout ID and net amount, check that sales, fees, refunds, and adjustments are separated clearly, check that the Xero accounts make sense, and check that the journal balances before scheduled posting is turned on.

Does this file to HMRC?

No. SalesToAccounts does not file to HMRC and it does not replace bookkeeping, tax, or accounting advice. It is a narrow bookkeeping tool feeding Xero.

What if I decide it is not a fit?

If the fit is wrong, do not apply. If you are accepted into beta and the workflow does not look right during review, stop there rather than forcing a cutover. Billing does not start during the current beta evaluation path.

Need proof?

Review a real payout

Use the proof walkthrough and reconciliation proof if you need to see what the output looks like before deciding.

Need a fit decision?

Ready to rule it in or out?

Use the eligibility checklist if the main question is whether you should apply at all.

Need a switching answer?

Already on another tool?

Use the switching hub if you already use A2X or Link My Books and want the dedicated comparison route for your current tool.

Need practice fit?

Reviewing it for a client?

Use the accountant page if you need a quick accountant or bookkeeper view of fit, what can be checked, and likely overhead.
